Take advantage of generous development concessions before June 30!

Council is reminding developers to take advantage of generous concessions as part of its Development Incentives Policy before the mid-year deadline.

With possible changes coming into effect after June 30, Rockhampton Regional Council’s Planning and Regulatory Committee Chair Councillor Ellen Smith is encouraging developers to submit their applications.

“If you have been sitting on a development application now is the time to send it in to Council,” Cr Ellen Smith said.

“Council can provide a 100 per cent reduction for new developments within the CBD precinct and a 50 per cent reduction for new commercial and industrial developments outside the CBD area, for submissions that are received by June 30.

“In the new financial year there may be significant changes to these development concessions offered by Council, which will be decided when it meets just prior to June 30.”

Councillor Smith added that the development scheme had proved to be very successful since the incentives were announced, with developments ranging from a new service station, expanding child care and nursing home facilities to commercial building lots, each receiving significant discounts.

“Since the policy was introduced, Council has approved nearly though 30 incentive applications in the CBD and non-CBD areas, and now we can look forward to seeing these developments come to life over the next year.”

Council’s Development Incentives Policy has four clear targets in mind:

* Stimulate development in Rockhampton’s traditional CBD area
* Enhance and add value to already existing businesses and infrastructure
* Increase development in the areas adjoining the CBD
* Encourage commercial and industrial investment in areas outside the CBD to ensure our economy continues to expand and diversify.
