A new piece of prime real estate has just hit the market in another major milestone for the Rockhampton Riverfront Revitalisation!

As demolition works commence this week on the former riverfront restaurant at Quay and Denham Street, tenders opened for the exclusive lease of the upper level restaurant and bar in the new Pier that will take over the address.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council will be working with Knight Frank Rockhampton and Region to market this unique piece of real estate that’s anticipated to liven up the riverfront through a vibrant hospitality experience.

“We are very excited to announce the opening of the tender for the restaurant and bar in the Pier that we are so keen to see become part of our riverfront landscape,” Mayor Strelow said.

“The Pier is something new for our city that will attract people to the riverfront again, and with the new Quay Street redevelopment already a drawcard, there’s no doubt that this restaurant will further help activate the area.”

With roughly 360 square metres of lettable floor space, the restaurant will extend over the Fitzroy River, featuring an indoor and outdoor alfresco dining space.

Taking cue from the CBD’s old industrial factories and warehouses, the design of the Pier will boast raw materials including a corten steel exterior, steel beams and floor to ceiling windows, creating a minimalist style with an industrial edge.

“We imagine that this space will be buzzing with noise from a scene-seeking crowd who will linger in before, during and after sunset and spread out to other areas of the CBD,” Mayor Strelow said.

Principal and Director of Knight Frank Rockhampton and Region, Pat O’Driscoll, said his team are committed to finding the right operator that will set the scene as a destination restaurant and bar.

“Knight Frank Rockhampton & Region are very proud to have been selected by Rockhampton Regional Council to market this exciting and historic Rockhampton redevelopment,” Mr O’Driscoll said.

“We will be taking this unique riverfront dining property to both the local and broader market in search of the perfect operator and we look forward to seeing what concepts this space will attract.”

Tenders opened on 1 February and will close on Wednesday 1 March, 2017.

Construction of the Pier was awarded to Woollam Constructions late 2016 and is due to be completed at end of the year following  the full re-opening of a revitalised Quay Street.

The Rockhampton Riverfront Revitalisation is a $36 million project, jointly funded by Rockhampton Regional Council, the State Government and the Federal Government.
