It’s ready, set, go on one of Rockhampton’s most popular sporting events with Council unanimously supporting a three year sponsorship deal for the annual 7Rocky River Run.

Recognised as a major drawcard for the Region, Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council was delighted to support the Rocky River Run to the tune of $65,000 plus in kind sponsorship from 2018 – 2020.

“It is incredibly pleasing to see the annual Rocky River Run continue to grow each year which is why Council is proud to provide support that will help keep the momentum going, ensuring that it remains one of our best sporting and community events,” Mayor Strelow said.

“The value of the River Run cannot be underestimated. It is one of those crucial events on our social calendar injecting money into our economy while bringing our community together and creating a fantastic vibe throughout our city on the day.”

CTC General Manager and organiser of the 7Rocky River Run, Darryl Lapworth, thanked Council for its ongoing commitment.

“Weare extremely grateful for Council’s ongoing contribution towards the Rocky River Run and the in-kind sponsorship which goes towards the logistics of the event – it’s something we really could not do without Council,” Mr Lapworth said.

“This year we have already seen the largest sale of early-bird registrations indicating an increase in participation. We already know that 250 hotel rooms have been booked by people travelling to Rockhampton for the event.

“Council, and all of our sponsors for that matter, have certainly backed a winner. Investment in this event goes a very long way, from raising the profile of our Region to bringing hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of economic value into Rockhampton for the weekend and supporting local charities.”

The 7Rocky River Run raises funds for the Rockhampton community including funds to address youth mental health issues and the prevention of youth suicide as well as supporting young families that need to travel to Brisbane for life saving surgery and treatment that is not available in Central Queensland.
