Upgrade completed at Somerset Road

Somerset Road in Gracemere was recently reopened following works by Rockhampton Regional Council to enhance road safety, functionality, and durability.

A 570m section of Somerset Road has undergone pavement replacement and widening, asphalt overlay, and line marking.

Additionally, new kerbing and channelling have been installed on the eastern side of the road, along with improvements to stormwater management.

Infrastructure Councillor Marika Taylor said Somerset Road is a vital link into the Gracemere industrial area, especially for heavy vehicles.

“Growth in this area has created a need for stronger and safer roads and our crews have delivered just that,” Cr Taylor said.

“By enhancing this key B-Double route’s structural integrity and load-bearing capacity, we’ve made it safer and more durable. The widening will also improve overall traffic flow.

“It is great to see this section of road completed, and I look forward to seeing our roads assist the growth and development within this essential industrial area.” 

Divisional Councillor Edward Oram also welcomed the completion of the works, highlighting the positive impact on the local community.

“The Gracemere Industrial Area is a hub for businesses, and the recent upgrades to Somerset Road will have a lasting impact on both safety and efficiency,” Cr Oram said.

“This upgrade is fantastic news for local residents, businesses, and transport operators.

“Improved road conditions mean safer, more reliable access for heavy vehicles and motorists, which is crucial as our community continues to expand.”

The project has been proudly funded by the Queensland Government through the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme, alongside contributions from Rockhampton Regional Council.
