Statement from Mayor Tony Williams on the Passing of Former Curator, Parks Director and Councillor Tom Wyatt

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of former Rockhampton Council Curator, Parks Director and Councillor Tom Wyatt.

Tom was a passionate horticulturist who dedicated his life to creating many of the green spaces we enjoy and treasure today.

His visionary leadership transformed the former Moores Creek Road landfill into the beloved Kershaw Gardens, a testament to his commitment to creating vibrant spaces for the whole community to enjoy.

Tom was also instrumental in delivering the Japanese Garden at the Botanic Gardens, and helping to establish the Rockhampton Zoo, which has brought so much joy to residents and visitors alike.

His legacy is evident everywhere, and Tom’s determination has ensured future generations can enjoy our beautiful spaces for years to come.

On behalf of Rockhampton Regional Council and the Rockhampton community, I extend our deepest condolences to Tom's family.

You will be greatly missed, but your contributions have left an indelible mark on our region.

Vale Tom.
