Major improvements to the Region’s road network continue to roll out thanks to the State Government’s Works For Queensland (W4Q) program providing $9.38 million in infrastructure upgrades across the Region.

Kerrigan Street, North Rockhampton, is the latest project to receive a massive upgrade worth $225,000 with road resurfacing, repairs and drainage upgrades stretching from Thozet Road to French Avenue.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow once again praised the State Government for their initiative to support and transform regional communities through jobs and vital infrastructure upgrades.

“Without a doubt, the Works for Queensland program has been one of the most exciting initiatives to help regional communities like ours to upgrade amenities and infrastructure as seen on Kerrigan Street,” Mayor Strelow said.

“Kerrigan Street is a central thoroughfare for many north side residents and we are extremely pleased to have delivered this long overdue improvement while keeping money in our pocket to focus on other essential projects.”

$200,000 of the W4Q funding delivered pavement repairs, kerb replacement, asphalt overlay, bitumen seal and line marking with Council funding $25,000 for stormwater improvements.

State Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga said she was proud to see the Kerrigan Street upgrade create and maintain ten full time jobs during the course of works.

“I am very proud to once again be seeing another completed project that benefits our community as a result of the Works for Queensland Program that is designed to stimulate our economy, create jobs and make a difference,” Mrs Lauga said.

“The best part is that this program delivers real visible improvements and, as seen on this Kerrigan Street upgrade,  support ten full-time equivalent jobs.”

The project was delivered by a combination of Council and Boral Asphalting resources.

Council is proud to have recently received an additional $9.05 million in round two of the Works for Queensland program which will fund a further 17 projects across the Region.
