Arts groups in the Walter Reid Cultural Centre will open their doors to the public at the Centre’s Open day in July.
The open day will not only give the public the chance to see what goes on in the building but also try their hand at a range of artforms.
“While people are in the CBD enjoying the River Festival, I encourage them to drop by
The Walter Reid Cultural Centre to see what the Centre has to offer,” Cr Swadling, Chair of Rockhampton Regional Council’s Communities Committee, said.
“You never know what you might be capable of, if you don’t have a try,” she said.
“Everyone has to be a beginner at some stage, so no matter what age people are, I encourage them to come along and have a go. Who knows, you might discover a hidden talent,” she said.
"If you have ever wanted to learn more about or maybe even have a try at wire wrapping, badge making, brooches, rings, pottery or many other artforms, then come on down to the Walter Reid Cultural Centre's Open Day," she said.
The open day will be held on Saturday 16 July from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free.
The Walter Reid Cultural Centre gallery will also be open with Downstream, an exhibition of painting, fire arts, pottery and photography created by artisans in the centre. Downstream is a ‘challenge’ exhibition on the theme, with prizes awarded by public votes. It will be on display from 12 to 17 July.
The Walter Reid Cultural Centre is owned and operated by Rockhampton Regional Council. It is located on the corner of Derby and East Streets, Rockhampton.
