When the rubbish is gone, nature can carry on!

Rockhampton Regional Council is encouraging local residents and visitors to lend a helping hand on Sunday 5 March for the annual Clean Up Australia Day campaign.

Community Services Committee Chair Councillor Rose Swadling said Clean Up Australia Day was picking up momentum with several sites already registered across the Region, but would love more people to be involved.

“So far we’ve got sites at Mount Morgan, Alton Downs, Koongal, Mt Archer, Gracemere and Rocky, but we’d really love to see more volunteers and more sites registered,” Cr Swadling said.

“Last year we had 12 sties, so I’m really encouraging residents to come on board, get involved in the community spirit and help our Region shine brighter.”

Councillor Drew Wickerson, who holds the Environment Portfolio, said it’s about getting in and having a go to help clean, fix and conserve our Region’s environment.

“Every little bit helps for Clean up Australia Day – it’s about pulling on the gloves, boots and hats, digging in and working as a team to help clean up areas that are special from parks and roadways to creek areas,” Cr Wickerson said.

“Anyone can organise a Clean Up site – simply find an area that is important to you and register a site or volunteer at an existing site to help make this the biggest Clean Up Australia day yet.”

Register at an existing site or volunteer at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au. You can also call 1800 CUA DAY (1800 282 329) to register as a volunteer, or just turn up on Sunday.
