Wild Dog Control Workshop to assist rural property owners

Published on 20 March 2018

Time is running out for landowners in the Rockhampton Region to register for a wild dog management workshop to be held in Alton Downs next week.

Free to attend, the workshop will be held at the Alton Downs Polocrosse Hall, from 8.30am until 4pm on Tuesday March 27.

Chair of Council’s Planning and Regulatory Committee Councillor Ellen Smith said the day will feature presentations from well-known pest management professionals, and provide attendees with the most up to date details on how to protect properties and stock.

“Managing wild dogs on properties is no easy feat and we hope that this workshop will really help the property owners who are doing it tough in that space at the moment,” Cr Smith said.

“The workshop aims to show property owners how to effectively protect stock and domestic animals through trapping and controlling dogs in a humane way.”

“You’ll be able to learn the most effective methods from experienced trapper, Jordy Oostrom and professional vertebra pest manager, Darren Pointon - who together bring more than 50 years of pest management experience with them.”

Residents can register for the workshop by phoning 4999 2800 or by emailing vicki.horstman@fba.org.au with registrations closing tomorrow Wednesday, March 21.

The workshop is jointly funded through Fitzroy Basin Association and the Australian Government’s national Landcare Program, with the support of Rockhampton Regional Council and Capricornia Catchments Inc.
