Establish a Community Garden

If you are interested in starting a new community garden on public land, you will need to follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Review Council's community garden fact sheet.
  • Step 2: Form a community garden group with other enthusiastic gardeners.
  • Step 3: Find a suitable location that meets your needs and preferences.
  • Step 4: Complete and submit the relevant forms and documents to Council.
  • Step 5: Discuss your proposal with the appropriate Council Officers.
  • Step 6: Wait for Council to assess your proposal and determine the level of engagement required.
  • Step 7: Receive the decision and outcome from Council.
  • Step 8: Work with Council to design and manage your community garden.
  • Step 9: Determine and arrange the legal documentation.
  • Step 10: Start working on your community garden.

Rockhampton Regional Council is proud to support community gardens on public land. However, we do not manage these gardens directly; each garden is managed by a Community Garden Group.
