The Rockhampton Regional Council Sustainability in Action Photo Competition is designed to recognise and celebrate the ways our local households and schools are putting sustainability into action in their everyday lives.The competition is open to all Rockhampton Region residents and schools!

Whether you’re fighting food waste, recycling right, using active transport, finding energy efficiencies, being water wise or looking after our local habitat and waterways, this competition is for you.

The 2024 Sustainability in Action Photo Competition is now open to all Rockhampton Region residents and schools!

Win prizes!
  • Winning households and schools will be recognised as ‘sustainability champions’ and will feature in Council's Living Sustainably program.
  • As a sustainability champion, you’ll also win $200 to support future sustainability actions within your household and school.
Entering is easy!
  • Fill in the online form below (alternatively download the PDF entry forms), and
  • Submit your digital (JPG) photograph/s and entry form by 5pm Friday 16th August 2024.
    All entries are to be submitted in accordance with the Conditions of Entry.

Capturing sustainability in action!

Submit photographic images that demonstrate your household and school participating in ‘Sustainability in Action’, with a key focus on the following themes:

  • Reducing single use plastic
    Such as: taking reusable bags shopping, packing plastic free lunches, using your keep cup or reusable water bottle
  • Caring for our catchment
    Such as: washing your car on the grass, picking up litter, participating in local clean-ups
  • Finding energy efficiencies
    Such as: switching off power points, using appliances with good energy ratings, checking seals on fridges and freezers
  • Growing your own fruit and vegetables
    Such as: tending to your vegetable patch, choosing local produce at market, cooking with your home grown produce
  • Fighting food waste
    Such as: using a shopping list, taking leftovers for lunch, extending life of food through good storage, composting organics at home
  • Active and sustainable transport
    Such as: carpooling to an event, walking/riding to school or work, pumping up vehicle tyres for fuel efficiency
  • Planting and caring for native plants
    Such as: planting and watering native plants in your garden, appreciating native plants on a bushwalk, controlling weeds
  • Reusing and upcycling
    Such as: mending clothes, reusing containers and jars, upcycling furniture
  • Encouraging wildlife and habitat
    Such as: having a wildlife shelter and water source in your garden, installing native bee/frog/butterfly hotels
  • Being water wise
    Such as: using a shower timer, hand watering or using a tap timer on sprinklers, mulching your garden\
  • Recycling right with yellow lid bins
    Such as: sorting recycling into the yellow lid bin, showing your internal bin system to sort recyclable items, collecting for containers for change
  • Green gift giving and festivities
    Such as: making wrapping paper out of kids artworks, reusing gift bags, giving homemade treats or experiences as gifts
