Capricorn Tag and Release Sports Fishing Club Inc (Captag)

Tag-Sign-North-Rockhampton

Captag members (as the name implies) catch, tag, record and release fish to provide and maintain data on the fish resources in an area.  Captag is a member of Suntag who then utilises Infofish Australia to maintain all the data obtained on tagged fish.

The information recorded is on the species, size and location of these fish as well as fishing techniques used to catch these fish. This information, as well as recapture data, helps with monitoring of fish stocks showing growth and movement indicating the health of the waterways.

Captag was formed in 1974 and is the longest running tagging club in Queensland. Members of the club tag in all areas from the blue water and estuaries to freshwater lakes and rivers. The Club is also involved in community programs revolving around our waterways. (e.g Fitzroy River Stocking Group / Clean Waterways)

Club outings are organised each month to different locations in the Central Queensland area.

Captag has not only been involved in tagging wild fish, but also the tagging and release of stock fingerlings.
