Invasive Plants and Animals

PEST Management

Invasive plants and animals exist in every local government area, costing Queensland more than $710 million every year in lost production and control costs. Invasive plants and animals also cause degradation of natural resources including vegetation, and pose a threat to biodiversity values, human health and recreational activities.

Feral Rusa Deer

In Rockhampton we have a population of one species of Feral Deer - Rusa Deer. It is estimated that there are 100-500 Feral Rusa Deer living in the Lakes Creek area.

Invasive Animals

Invasive animals differ from domestic animals in that they have not simply escaped the confines of their owner's property, but are living as wild animals.

Invasive Plants

Invasive plants cause degradation of natural resources including vegetation, and pose a threat to biodiversity values, human health and recreational activities.

Biosecurity Act

The new Biosecurity Act 2014 came into force on July 1, 2016 and will improve Queensland’s biosecurity preparedness and response capabilities.

Biosecurity Plan

It is a requirement of the Biosecurity Act 2014 for Council to have a Biosecurity Plan to address invasive biosecurity matter within its local government area.
